To overcome, we must come together. We believe any strategy that doesn’t build, connect, innovate and reinvest, cannot create lasting change.
Here are just a few ways we live out this philosophy…
Professional Development
Don’t get us wrong, we want to change things in the media industry to make it more consciously inclusive and accessible to creative and qualified, melanated individuals. However, our priority is equipping each other with the opportunities, experience, training and cultural know-how, to thrive in the industry right now, today.
We does this through…
Mentorship:
Intentionally facilitating (through productions, events, trainings and more) relationships between established professionals of excellence and character from every department on set, and dedicated but under-experienced folks with an interest in movie making.
Black Narratives
At Lion Speaks, we amplify Black narratives in the media and entertainment realm, while also championing the broader BIPOC community. Our purpose is to elevate stories from diverse heritages and empower creators with mentorship, training, and job opportunities.
WHY?
Film and television are powerful storytelling tools that shape our sense of self and what it means to be an American. Because non-BIPOC producers typically tell the stories of Black Americans and other people of color, they tend to distort and diminish our lives and experiences.
Fiscal Sponsorship
By acting as a fiscal sponsor for productions, Lion Speaks enables BIPOC directors and producers to receive grants from foundations and government agencies as well as charitable (tax deductible) funding from individuals, without having to go through the time consuming and expensive process of creating and running a 501(c)(3) organization themselves.
As fiscal sponsor we can also provide administrative support and oversight to help in the successful completion of projects that further our mission.
